When the Planter Sets the Room’s Outline: Spacewasp’s PLANTER COLLECTION

Plant-derived material, 3D printing and light at floor level—one sculptural vessel shaped to its setting

A plant’s place extends beyond the inside of its pot. Spacewasp’s new collection, read through the 800 mm-wide PEBBLE, brings room dimensions, weight, light and ordering conditions into the same view.

A planter can look oddly detached from a room even after the plant feels right. The floor, furniture and height of the leaves may have been chosen as separate decisions. Spacewasp’s PLANTER COLLECTION treats the vessel not as a final accessory but as a form that mediates between plant and space. Its representative PEBBLE model makes that idea tangible through scale, weight, light and the ordering process.

Seeing a planter at the scale of furniture

The normal PEBBLE has reference exterior dimensions of 800 × 800 × 650 mm. Five rounded lobes rise from a broad footprint and narrow toward the opening. It is larger than the hand-held vessel the word planter may suggest. Like a low table or sofa, it asks for the floor area and walking route to be measured first. The mini is listed at 400 × 400 × 330 mm.

The normal body has an estimated reference weight of about 25.8 kg, excluding the plant, soil, water and lighting equipment. Once the planted weight and any future movement are considered, placement is no longer only decorative. Door width, floor load, drainage, daylight and conditioned air all belong in the same plan as the plant.

The forms use plant-derived material and 3D printing. The layered build is not hidden; it makes fine shadows across the curves. The company’s figure of more than 100,000 variations does not mean that 100,000 products are listed for sale. It describes the scale created by combinations of design parameters, including form and connection, while feasible specifications depend on the model and project.

Taking a daytime vessel into evening light

Every model in the collection can be specified with internal LED lighting. For the normal PEBBLE, the option was listed at an additional ¥43,000 including tax when checked. By day, the printed layers and the plant’s shadow define the form. At night, light spreading from the base lets the planter hold another expression without changing the plant.

An illuminated planter is not automatically a grow light. The internal light is an option for spatial atmosphere, while the plant’s own light requirements remain a separate decision. The LED is described as water-resistant, but it must not sit where water constantly reaches it or where it can be submerged. Choosing a bottom without a drainage hole also does not make the vessel waterproof.

The official visual used here places planters with different curves and ridges beside cacti, foliage plants and trees. Spacewasp states that its published imagery includes CG and installation impressions. The whiteness, surface finish and plant-to-vessel proportions on screen should not be treated as a guarantee of the finished object. Actual dimensions, colour, layer pattern, interior size and planting depth need confirmation before an order is finalised.

Measuring the site before ordering

The normal PEBBLE was listed at ¥142,000 including tax when checked, with white as the standard colour. Lighting, size changes, planting, delivery, carrying-in and installation may be charged separately. Sending the project form does not itself confirm an order. Specifications, quantity, total payment and lead time are presented for approval first, so the product price and the cost of reaching its final position should be considered separately.

Payment is by bank transfer against invoice within 5 days of order confirmation. The stated lead-time guide is about 1 week to 2 months after payment is received, with kerbside delivery within Japan. Production begins after payment, so buyer-initiated cancellation, return or exchange is not accepted. A 1-year warranty covers material or manufacturing defects in the planter body, LED and power supply under normal use; planting is excluded.

Ordering planting with the vessel is also quoted individually according to the species and its size. Rather than selecting a pot from the plant’s silhouette alone, the interior pot, watering method, light and circulation route help determine the exterior. PEBBLE looks soft, but bringing that softness into a room requires exact measurements and a concrete conversation.

When the planter is chosen last, a small mismatch can remain between plant and furniture. Draw an 800 mm outline on the floor first, then add the reach of the leaves and the evening light. PLANTER COLLECTION is less a proposal for a conspicuous object than a change in sequence: the plant’s place returns to the design of the room.
