On September 15, 2026, Sakata Seed released details of its displays for next year’s expo. Its group plans five exhibitions, including the Hyakka-Sairan garden and a dedicated pavilion. The announcement sets out the form of the central Mirai no Hana sculpture alongside plans for planting and hands-on displays.
Vegetables join the flower beds
Hyakka-Sairan will centre on roughly 160 flower varieties and 20 vegetable varieties developed by the company. Its planned settings include blue-themed beds recalling Yokohama’s sky and sea, seasonal flowers surrounding the sculpture, and beds with a contemporary Japanese character.
One setting is a potager, combining vegetables, herbs and flowers. Plants often separated into ornamental beds and food crops will share the same planted space. The appeal lies in giving vegetables a role in composing the garden.
The variety totals describe the garden’s exhibition plan, not a promise that everything will flower on opening day. Seasonal combinations across the roughly six-month expo suggest a changing garden rather than a single moment of peak bloom.
An imagined flower, seasonal displays
Mirai no Hana, at the centre, is a sculpture of a flower that does not yet exist—not a new cultivar. It combines deep blue with yellow-green, while its petal patterns take inspiration from kintsugi. Living plants and a constructed flower will occupy the same garden.
For a short indoor display in May, campanulas will take the lead in a setting that pairs a flower-covered hill with a farm table. A separate July display will combine trees with lisianthus in varied colours and flower forms.

From a flower bed to a seed
The pavilion, Tabisuru Tane to Watashi, turns to plants before they grow. Plans include real seeds, opportunities to explore their textures and scents, activities related to a seed company’s work, and a film lasting about three minutes.
GREEN×EXPO 2027 runs from March 19 to September 26, 2027, at the former Kamiseya Communications Station in Yokohama. Display plans may change. The accompanying images are design visualisations of the garden and pavilion.
